Description:
Folding fan with single fabric pleated leaf. Ivory color silk leaf is overlaid with black mesh lace and two oval black silk medallions. Lace floral designs are enhanced with silver sequins. Tortoiseshell guards and sticks are decorated with silver pique (small inset metal dots). The rivet has diamond paste studs and a metal loop.

The box lid is labeled Joseph G. Darlington & Co., PHILA. The underside of the box is stamped FRANCE. Joseph G. Darlington operated a dry goods store in Philadelphia, PA, from 1893 until about 1908. The store specialized in high quality merchandise of American and foreign manufacture, with offices in Paris, London, Berlin and Vienna.
