have fielded several worried questions regarding the first floor windows
which are now boarded up. No,
vandals did not hurl rocks through the windows.
Instead, with the help of a Pennsylvania Historical and Museum
Commission Keystone grant, we are repairing these windows.
Although we have all been protected by the Athenaeum’s interior
shutters, it had become more and more obvious that when the shutters were
opened, air seeped inside the building, raising our heating and cooling
costs. Rattling muntins also
testified to the fragile hold of the glass.
Although the repair is not pretty at this moment, our windows
should be safely repaired before the worst of the winter hits the
building. Thank you for your
patience. Member News Athenaeum
