Exhibition Opening: Sharing The Page: Mary McCarthy and Shirley Veenema The Athenaeum presents a collaborative exhibition featuring the work of Boston-based artists Mary McCarthy and Shirley Veenema, longtime colleagues. Their collaboration began in 2009 while at a retreat for artists in New Mexico during which they visited sites and shared ideas. Returning to Boston, they decided to combine research and interests. Their first project drew on individual interests while in New Mexico: one was intrigued by the design of doors, the other drawn to stories of the saints. The resulting book, Doors to the Saints-2010, tells the stories of 12 female saints, one for each month of the year. They continued to focus on women in several subsequent pieces, while at the same time challenging new areas of content and technique. Dos-à-dos style book constructions, the integration of digital print processes with handwork, miniature books, and a series inspired by Emily Dickinson followed. Exhibition Dates: June 22 - July 31, 2015 Reception
and Meet the Artists: June

Stanev Potts, Architects. Staff News Have you noticed the change in Becca Daniels? Her shaved head demonstrates her commitment to the St. Baldrick's Foundation, which raises funding for childhood cancer research. Because children with cancer often lose their hair during treatment, the St. Baldrick's Foundation has found this unique way to draw attention and donations by having volunteers shave their heads. On May 9th in the Poconos Becca participated in one of these programs, but in April she also organized a Benefit Art Show in Philadelphia with the proceeds to go to the St. Baldrick's Foundation. The Poconos program alone raised more than $15,000 this year.
