Athenaeum Genealogy Group Exhibition Opening Reception: Sharing The Page: Mary McCarthy and Shirley Veenema The Athenaeum presents a collaborative exhibition featuring the work of Boston-based artists Mary McCarthy and Shirley Veenema, longtime colleagues. Their collaboration began in 2009 while at a retreat for artists in New Mexico during which they visited sites and shared ideas. Returning to Boston, they decided to combine research and interests. Their first project drew on individual interests while in New Mexico: one was intrigued by the design of doors, the other drawn to stories of the saints. The resulting book, Doors to the Saints-2010, tells the stories of 12 female saints, one for each month of the year. They continued to focus on women in several subsequent pieces, while at the same time challenging new areas of content and technique. Dos-à-dos style book constructions, the integration of digital print processes with handwork, miniature books, and a series inspired by Emily Dickinson followed. Exhibition Dates: June 22 - July 31, 2015 Reception

revealing study of treasures lost and found begins with the Portrait
of Adele Bloch-Bauer (by Gustav Klimt), which was stolen by the
Nazis, but it doesn’t stop there. Nancy Moses prowls through museum
records, newspapers, and interviews to uncover the stories of such
treasures as the typeset manuscript for Pearl Buck’s The Good Earth,
a ceremonial Ghost Dance short from the massacre at Wounded Knee, the
theft of 4,800 historical audio discs by a top official at the National
Archives, a missing original copy of The Bill of Rights, the mummy of
Ramses I, and an ancient treasure from Iraq – all objects that went
astray but were eventually returned to the rightful owner.
