Society Hill Open House and Garden Tour The 37th Annual Society Hill Open House & Garden Tour will take place on Sunday, May 17th, from 1 to 5 p.m. Tickets are now on sale for this delightful self-guided walking tour of more than ten private homes and gardens in one of our nation’s most historic neighborhoods. Each year, the Society Hill Tour offers an all-new selection of exceptional homes and gardens that range in style and décor from the 18th and 19th-century period to the most contemporary styles. Many people attend these tours for inspirational design ideas they can use in their own homes. Come and get wonderful ideas for your home! While the exhibition displayed only a small selection of the Athenaeum's yellowbacks, the online exhibit presents the entire collection with digital images of the front and back covers. Charles E. Peterson Fellowship of the Buildings of the United States and the Athenaeum of Philadelphia At its latest Annual Meeting the Society of Architectural Historians awarded graduate student Tonia Sing Chi the annual competitive Charles E. Peterson Fellowship of the Buildings of the United States. Ms. Chi will be researching and writing two pre-1860 buildings entries for New York State for SAH Archipedia, working with Prof. David Salomon of Ithaca College, who is the coordinator for the NY state entries for SAH. Tonia Sing Chi is a graduate student studying Architecture & Design at Columbia University in New York City. Dr. Tatman serves on the committee which chooses the recipient of the award each year. Charles E. Peterson was very active in the Society of Architectural Historians and was instrumental in establishing the Philadelphia Chapter, which first met at the Athenaeum in 1964, with a program honoring the recently deceased Harold Donaldson. James Dallett spoke at that program as did Charles E. Peterson who lectured on "The Monumental Patrimony: Some Observations on the Second International Congress for Architects and Technicians of Historic Monuments."
Proust in Philadelphia Among the group attending Mary Goldstein's presentation on Proust and Photography in April were members of a Philadelphia Proust reading group. This group is currently located in the Hopkinson House and is reading In Search of Lost Time with a view to discussing recurring themes.
