Blue Star Museums

The Athenaeum is pleased to once again join more than 1,800 museums across America to offer free admission to military personnel and their families this summer. Memorial Day launched Blue Star Museums, a partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and Blue Star Families; the program runs through Labor Day 2013. Leadership support for this national program has been provided by the MetLife Foundation through Blue Star Families.

The complete list of participating museums is available at www.arts.gov/bluestarmuseums. The free admission program is available to active-duty military and their immediate family members (military ID holder and five immediate family members). Active duty military include Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, and active duty National Guard and active duty Reserve members.

FANA Journal Acquisition

In recognition of the overwhelming response to the Athenaeum's fan exhibition, now online, The Athenaeum has become a member of the Fan Association of North America and has been the fortunate recipient of a donation of the back issues of the FANA Journal (2003 to 2012).  This colorfully illustrated and meticulously researched journal is available to Athenaeum members and researchers.  Publishing articles that range in coverage from European to Asian to American fans, the FANA Journal includes such offerings as "A Statue of Liberty Fan" and "Spanish Commemorative Fans of the 19th Century."

Temple University Work-Study Students

The Athenaeum would like to congratulate our Temple University work-study students who graduated this year: Karen Lowry, Jasmine Clark and Tanya Nash.  They performed a variety of tasks during their stay with us, including assisting the circulation and cataloging departments.
