Description:
Known as a Jenny Lind fan, this brise style folding fan has individual petalshaped segments of linen or muslin attached to each stick. The fabric segments are decorated with silver metal sequins. Pierced bone sticks and guards are interconnected by hidden threads. The rivet has mother of pearl buttons and a metal loop. This style of fan was associated with Jenny Lind, a popular Swedish opera singer known as the Swedish Nightingale. Beginning in 1850, sponsored by P. T. Barnum, she toured in the United States to much acclaim.
