Note that only the evening dresses feature fans, and these are the oversized fans later ridiculed in Dame Fashion.

Walking dress of brown silk; Dinner dress of moss-green silk and grenadine; Reception dress of pale blue silk; Evening dress of pink silk and flowered gauze; House dress of elephant-colored silk.  

Although more fans are displayed here, only three of the ladies hold fans; and those are all folded.

Dinner dress of black silk; Walking dress of elephant-colored cashmere and silk; Evening dress of two shades of moss green silk and crepe de chine; House dress of blue bunting; Walking dress of purple silk.

Visiting dress of purple plush and satin and plush demassee; House dress of two shades of blue; Evening dress made of plain pink silk and striped satin; Dinner dress of gendarme green silk; Walking dress of two shades of elephant silk and camel’s hair; Dress for child of five years.  

Only the figure wearing the evening dress unfolds her matching fan.  Others hold folded fans.

The figure wearing the tea gown holds one of the few fixed fans that we find illustrated in Godey's.
