CASE 5 - MOURNING FANS
Although not every fan is intended as a mourning fan, probably some of
the fans on display in this case did function in that way. Just as
people used to have special clothes for funerals and the weeks or months
of mourning, there were fans designed for mourning. These mourning fans
were often created in black materials to match the black clothing worn
during periods of mourning. Simplicity often marked these fans.
